Phyllis Solcyk Fine Art

About Phyllis Solcyk…

The "Lucky Lady"…Formal training was at the original Chouinard Art Institute…on a scholarship! That began this artist's journey. What special people I've met and amazing places their training has taken me.

I began by working for Disney Studio in Burbank California. Walt was there, busily putting the finishing touches on the original Disneyland...what a time to be there! After the required apprenticeship period I worked on several major animated films plus some early TV programs. During prolonged lay-offs that ocurred when the studio retooled for new projects, I decided to re-enter college for technical training.

The Aerospace industry was booming! I worked at Lockheed for about 12 years in many different capacities. At one period Lockheed even had it's own Movie Unit! The work always required technical precision and close attention to detail…which still influences my way of working.

To keep the skills acquired working for Disney, I turned to watercolor and began attending the "Jade Fon" watercolor workshops in northern California. These workshops gave students access to the nations most reknowed and respected artists. Working with, and being mentored by them; what a tremendous experience!.

Today, my paintings are featured in well known publications…"Splash 4" by Northlight. "The Best of Watercolor" by Rockport Publishers, "The Sketchbook Artist" by Quarto Publications, London and watercolor Illustrations for Children's Books in "The Tadpole Series" (I couldn't let the Disney training go to waste, could I?).

I have paintings in public and private collections in both Europe and the United States, as well as the Smithsonian and the Library of Congress.

I'm active with: the National Watercolor Society (Past-President)
The California Art Club, Watercolor West, Women Painters West, The American Society of Marine Artist, The International Society of Marine Painters, and proudly I'm also a United States Coast Guard Artist!
